Wolves put up 52 points to hold off Melrose Game 4

A scoring flurry by both teams ended in a Milaca victory over Melrose 52-36. The Dutchmen took an early lead on a 41 yd pass play to go up 6-0 in the first quarter as the Wolves looked a little dazed by the passing game that Melrose brought to the field. The Wolves countered with a 23 yd pass from Kiel to Mitch Ruis and a Sam Johnson run to put the Wolves up 8-6. The scoring flurry continued as Melrose found another wide-open receiver on a 45 yd pass and a 2 pt conversion to take back the lead 14-8. Milaca's running game took over in the second quarter as Sam Johnson picked up 2 of his 4 touchdowns to push Milaca's lead to 22-14 only to see Melrose add another quick td before halftime to make the score 22-20 at the half.
After a 3 and out in the second half Milaca pushed across another score on a Brandon Kiel 1 yd run and a 2 pt conversion by Kiel making the score 30-20. It seemed as if Milaca had finally gotten the momentum they were looking for only to see Melrose score two quick touchdowns via their air attack. The Wolves were not finished though as Kiel found Cody Goor in the open for an 80 yd pass play that ended in a Milaca td. Sam Johnson added two more running touchdowns behind the offensive line of: Dylan Quaintance, Jordan Ahner at tackles, Travis Bertram, Joe Hemmerich, Adam Veurink and Brad Hipsag at guards and Dylan Moorlag at Center. Milaca amassed 431 yds total offense, 194 yds rushing and 237 yards in the air. It was the second week in a row that the offense was over 400 yards total offense.

Wolves over the Falcons 34-7

With 437 yards of offense, there was no stopping the Milaca Wolves as they defeated the Falcons of Foley 34-7 to up their record to 3-0. A stingy defense allowed only 137 yards while recovering 2 fumbles and adding one more interception to bring the pick total to 8 for the first three games. QB, Brandon Kiel led the scoring for the Wolves with 9 and 16 yard touchdown runs. Kiel also passed to Cody Goor for a 49 yard TD pass to open the scoring in the first quartrer. Joe Hemmerich added 3 extra points with 3 PAT kicks. Mitch Ruis scored on a 47 yd run in the 4th quarter as he broke through a huge hole courtesy of Dylan Moorlag, Travis Bertram, Joe Hemmerich, Jordan Ahner and Dylan Quaintance. Sam Johnson finished the Milaca scoring with a 5 yd TD run. Cyle Patnode had the catch of the night as he hauled in a Kiel pass on 3rd and long to keep a key drive going in the 3rd quarter.
Milaca's defense shut down Foley's running game allowing only 91 yards on the ground and 46 in the air. Defensive ends, Logan Bemis and Joe Hemmerich dominated the Foley offensive line. Linebackers, Travis Bertram, Sam Johnson and Vince Griffith seemed to be all over the field and in the Foley backfield. Keenan Hayes and Marcus Hanenburg each had a fumble recovery and Brandon Kiel added the interception.

Wolves Move to 2-0 with 30-20 win over Cathedral

The Wolves Football team upped their record to 2-0 with a rain-soaked win over the Cathedral Crusaders at Claffy Field. Milaca jumped to an early 8-0 lead as QB Brandon Kiel connected with Sr. WR Cody Goor on a 17 yard pass and followed that with a pass to Riley Sikkink for the 2 point conversion to give the Wolves the early lead. The drive started after Sr. OLB, Marcus Hanenburg picked off a Spaniol pass and gave Milaca the ball on the CHS 36 yard line. It was one of four interceptions that the Wolves had to stop the potent passing attack of Cathedral. Sr. Noseguard, Andrew Merten alertly picked off a batted pass, Cody Goor and Riley Sikkink also had interceptions for the Wolves. After falling behind 13-8 late in the second quarter, Milaca's 2 minute offense moved the ball to the Cathedral yard line where Sam Johnson powered his way to the corner pylon to score the TD. Kiel added the conversion on a run to give Milaca a 16-13 lead going in to half time.
In the second half, Milaca over came penalties and the downpour of rain to score two more times to seal the win. Brandon Kiel went 92 yds to set the pace for the second half. Kiel again added the 2 points to give Milaca a 24-13 lead. In the fourth quarter, it was Kiel again on a 15 yd run to make the score 30-13. A late 4th quarter pass resulted in a TD for CHS to make the final 30-20.

Wolves Hang on for 22-20 win over ACGC

The Wolves opened the season with a 22-20 win over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Friday night. it was the first time Milaca has faced ACGC with a game that will be remembered for quite some time. The Wolves jumped off to a early 6-0 lead on an 85 yard run by Sr. Captain, Sam Johnson on the second play of the game. Sam took the ball on a dive play and broke several tackles before racing up the sideline for the early touchdown. It was then Sr. Captain, Mitch Ruis' turn as he carried the ball into the end zone on a 4 yd run. Mitch also added the 2 point conversion on a run to bring the score to 14-0.

The momentum quickly changed as ACGC rallied with two unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter on 4 and 18 yard runs and a conversion pass to tie the score at 14-14 going into the locker room for half time. The Falcons came back out in the 3rd and added another touchdown on a 2 yd run, leaving the score 20-14. With the Wolves facing a 3rd and long from their own 32 yard line, Mitch Ruis took the handoff from Brandon Kiel on a counter play, and carried the ball 68 yards for a Wolves touchdown. Kiel added the 2 extra points to put Milaca up 22-20. ACGC had several opportunities in the remaining 10 minutes, but Milaca's defense made some big plays to stop the Falcons, including a game ending interception by Riley Sikkink to secure the win for the Wolves.
The Wolves, 1-0, will take on Cathedral, Friday night September 10th at Claffy Field at 7 pm
